More Than A School

Sports Funding

Sports Funding

Schools use the sports premium funding to improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils, but they are free to choose the best way of using the money.

Sports Funding for September 2024 to August 2025

At Palmarsh, we have a very proud sporting history. The PE Premium is used in many ways to continue this; as PE is something we are extremely passionate about and believe that it is important for all pupils to be included.

Over the last few years, we have endeavoured to provide pupils with a wide range of sporting experiences and opportunities, that they might not otherwise have had the chance to take part in.

Palmarsh Primary School's vision for PE is to provide pupils with opportunities to foster a lifelong love of sport and develop an awareness for it role in a healthy lifestyle.

To promote this, the school provide a wide range of after-school clubs to cater for all year groups and sporting tastes, hold an array of experiences and take part in a number of competitions.

We are pleased to have been awarded the BRONZE School Games award for our PE provision across the school for 2022-2023 and we aim to achieve higher this year.

Our Key aims for 2024-2025:

  • Develop and improve all staff, so they are able to continue to provide rich and engaging activities.
  • Continue to develop a new school curriculum to provide opportunities for sport and PE.
  • Develop competitions, in and out of school.
  • Raise the profile of PE in school and the wider community.

Purpose of funding

Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.

Possible uses for the funding might include:

  • hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers when teaching PE

  • supporting and engaging the least active children through new or additional Change4Life clubs

  • paying for professional development opportunities for teachers in PE and sport

  • providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE and sport

  • running sport competitions, or increasing pupils’ participation in the School Games

  • buying quality assured professional development modules or materials for PE and sport

  • providing places for pupils on after school sports clubs and holiday clubs

  • pooling the additional funding with that of other local schools.
